Glowing Text Tutorial
By Erica

This tutorial was made in Paint Shop Pro 7, but you can do this in versions 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10.

Step 1) Create a new image. The size doesn't matter, as long as it's wide enough and tall enough for the glow that you're going to create. I started with 500 width, 200 height. You can choose to keep your background transparent or you can flood fill it and make it any color you'd like. For this example, I chose black.

Step 2)
Next, go to the text tool[image] and choose your font, font size and font color. I'm using font GeeoHmk, size 100, color #FB1DB5.

Step 3) Go to Selections>Modify>Expand and for number of pixels, type in 5.

Step 4) Click on Flood Fill[image] and fill in your selection with the same color as the text.

Step 5) Exit out of the selection. To do this, you'd click on the selection tool[image] and then right click your mouse.

Step 6) Go to Effects>Blur>Gaussian Blur. Make the radius 12.00. Click ok.

Step 7) Go back to the text tool[image] and type out the same words if it's not already there. You can keep the color the same, change it to match the background, or choose a totally different color. I chose to keep the text the same color. Center your text in the glow. Go to the selection tool[image] , right click. And wah-la! You've created glowing text. :D And you can play around and stuff too, like changing the blur radius and the number of pixels you want to expand, as well. So just have fun with it!

Milk Prom
By Faye

Drinks, snacks and dancing till dawn! Yes, it was the Milk Prom last Saturday night.

All the milkers pranced in with they long gowns, propped up hair and glittery shoes. Many games
were held to entertain us all such as guess the song! They were drinks for all and age restriction? As if!
Early morning everyone dragged them selves home and spent the rest of the day in bed.

Also we had a Prom Queen award which was awarded to LK. All the Milkers voted and she came out tops!
Congrats LK!

We really hope you enjoyed the prom, hopefully we'll have another one at the end of this coming term!

Advice Column
By Jen

Hi,
I have a baby I thought I liked from a sunrise. But when I had her in game for a few minutes, I realized I didn't really 'click' with them, but I told the hexer I did because I thought I did. This is not the first time I've been in this situation. What can I do now, and how can I avoid getting stuck like this again?
~Anonymous

Dear Anonymous

Your situation is common throughout the BC so don't feel bad. Since writing the letter are you still not clicking? If so I would politely tell the hexer things aren't working out. Hexers prefer honesty, tell them the baby is adorable and you're grateful for being allowed the chance to adopt this cutie. I hope it works out for you.

Jen

Thank you for your letters!

Please send them to moosletter!

Orphan of the Week
By Erica

This week's orphan of the week is Sebastian Isaac! This adorable little guy has been up for adoption since July 22nd! He's a sweetheart with a little bit of an evil streak. But that's always adorable in babyz, right? He was hexed by Tina and he needs a mommy (or daddy) as soon as possible! Izz has sent him over to me to rehome him for her, so if you're interested in becoming his new mom/dad, PM Erica with this form:

Why do you want Sebastian?
Why would you be a good parent for Sebastian?

Mini Hogwarts
by LK

Mini Hogwarts, or MH as it's better known to those who frequent it, is a rp board that combines two fabulous things. Harry Potter and Babyz. It was opened almost two years ago by the marvellous Lacey and currently has twenty-two members. It's the perfect time to join as a new semester will be starting shortly. There are thirty-five different boards for you to rp your characters in including a Quidditch Pitch, Great Hall, all four common rooms and even a General Common Room where characters from all different houses chill.

Elle and Kelley have recently joined MH, here are some thoughts they shared about their experience last summer:

Was it hard to get started?

Elle: kind of, because you have to try and introduce your characters to a lot of other characters, and mostly everyone else's are involved in plotlines already. So, you have to learn to build your own somehow.

Kelley: A little, at first. All the different boards kind of scared me, haha but once I got the hang of where everything was everything was pretty east.

How have the other members been towards you?

Elle: Everyone there is awesome and so sweet! I thought that being new it would be hard to find people to RP with but people were willing and jumped into threads with me. They've helped me learn to RP better as well.

Kelley: Everyone's been extremely nice! The first day I joined loads of people offered to help me if I needed it, and that was pretty awesome of them. I also looved it when Elle offered to roleplay with me because I wasn't really sure how to start things off.

What's your favorite part of the site?

Elle: I like all of the sections but I really like the area where people describe their families/ characters. This way, you can see what kind of personality the character has that you are RPing with, and it's interesting to see everyone's family plots.

Kelley: Hmm..I'd have to say the Introductions and Family board. It's great for new members to be able to read up on who's who.

Opposing View

Jen: One of the best (and only) Babyz/Harry Potter crossover roleplay forum out there it's the obvious choice when deciding where to join.

However as with most forums, most friendships are already well set in and being a "newb" to Mini Hoggies is difficult in that it is already quite cliquey.

But don't let this put you off, just keep at it and you'll be well within that clique before long.

Another downer is that most of the original characters have been "claimed" and so you're likely to be playing Bob Nobody, but make your nobody well-known and people will be questioning whether or not your character WAS an original character!!

Convinced? Great! Here's how to get started:

Step 1: Sign up at www.minihoggies.proboards50.com

Step 2: Read the rules.

Step 3: Select up to four of your babyz to bring into MH, you can add more later on as your post count goes higher. There's more about this in the Rules and Guidelines section. :)

Step 4: Fill out the sorting hat quiz for each of your kids and wait for an admin to sort them. HINT: Be sure to check back on occasion as the the admins modify your original post to sort them rather than replying to keep things nice and neat.

Step 5: Look around at some threads by older members to see examples of rping styles.

Step 6: Start a thread in the Family section and introduce your characters. Make sure someone else doesn't already have claims on a character from Harry Potter that you want to use. You can also make up a last name, families don't have to be from the books.

Step 7: Start a thread with one (or more) of your kids and soon some nice MHer will reply.

It seems like a lot of work, but it's all really fun and addicting! It's a great way to meet new people and form friendships as well as improve your writing.

Toy Hexing in the BC
By Erica

Toy hexing is gaining popularity in the Babyz Community, and quickly. I've talked to several toy hexers, and this is what they had to say!

Who/What taught you how to hex toys?
Kelley - I taught myself. I was bored so I started playing around with Tinker..and it just worked for me.
Laura - I was pretty much self taught. It started hexing clothes and kind of got me curious if toys could be the same why by hexing the id number. Of course this was back before Nicholas created Tinker so the only thing was food or bottles. Once Tinker came out I started hexing playscenes, and thought that if I could hex a whole playscene, surely I could hex a toy, so I did ;] I read a couple guides, but they just confused me more so I used my own trial and error, and many reinstallations.
LK - Some of it I figured out from tinkering clothes and just trying things out. But Lint and Laura helped out a lot.
Liz - Erm I think I sort of figured it out myself, and asked Carolyn when I got really stuck, so basically Carolyn initially. Then when I got back into it, it was crashing and Jen helped me to fix that problem :D
Linty - I had a lot of help from Kelley and a few others but mainly I taught myself.
Christina - I kind of taught myself because I knew the basics from hexing clothes and it was pretty much the same thing. I picked up tips from a lot of people around the BC though.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
Kelley - As I said above, I was bored.
Laura - My niece and nephew have so many toys, and I get inspired from them. I also am a big kid and love spending time online looking at toys and getting ideas. I want babyz to be as realistic as I could so having ‘real’ toys makes it all the more special!
LK - I usually just look around toy stores or think about the toys that I loved as a kid. Or things that I love now.
Liz - Ermmm google. ROFL!
Linty - Myself I guess & what kind of mood I am in when I start to hex.
Christina - I normally go to the toystore with my brothers and I'll look around with them and think "Hey that'd be a cool toy to hex."

What made you want to hex toys?
Kelley - After I learned I thought of a bunch of toys I'd like to have for my babyz..so I hexed them, and now it's just really fun and relaxing for me in a weird way.
Laura - Like I said before, I want the game to be as realistic as possible, and while the game toys are wonderful, I’d like a little variety and be able to choose more toys. Even though they can’t work as realistically as real toys, it’s still fun to pretend! I also want to be able to share my creations with other milkers and make their babyz happy with new toys like mine are!
LK - I don't know why, but I'd started downloading a lot of new toys and decided to try hexing some myself.
Liz - Coz they are cuuute!
Linty - The game toys were getting too boring. I wanted a change
Christina - I never liked the in game toys

What advice and tips can you offer for others learning to hex toys?
Kelley - Be patient with it! It can get frustrating sometimes, just like hexing clothes and Babyz, but once you get the hang of it it can be really fun.
Laura - Just keep trying and don’t give up. It takes a long time to learn but once you hex your first working toy, there is such a burst of accomplishment that it makes all this deleted copies worth it! Oh, and always make a backup of your original toy in case you need to know the original ID number…very important!
LK - Try to hex from either the Stuffed Man Doll, the Airplane or something that's been hexed. The other toys aren't rehexable and the ball is a LOT of work.
Liz - If you are going to resize it, do it before adding the pink background or else you get a pink fringe on the toy :)
Linty - Make sure no one else has hexed what you want to hex because that can stir up some problems.
Christina - Hex toys that you would want when you were a kid or that you think would be fun.
